Less densely populated and with more parks and open spaces than
other quarters of the capital, South East London is fast 'arriving'
as a very desirable area in which to live.
Most parts are served by excellent bus and rail services into Central
London and the City (e.g. Brockley to London Bridge = 7mins), and
we now have the benefit of the innovative and picturesque Docklands
Light Railway (DLR) extension, which opened on schedule in January
2000. The DLR, which previously ran only north of the river linking
the City to Island Gardens at the south end of the Isle of Dogs,
has now been extended under the river to a newly-built station at
the Cutty Sark at the heart of West Greenwich. | |
It then continues overland to Lewisham centre via Greenwich and
Deptford. You can take the DLR from Lewisham to the City, or change
at Canary Wharf and link into the new Jubilee Line extension, which
will whisk you to the West End in just 15 minutes.
In other directions main rail, coach and road routes facilitate
access to and from the bordering counties of Surrey and Kent
(the 'Garden of England'), the Medway Towns, the Kent coast, and
The Channel Tunnel and ferry services, for that shopping trip
-- or perhaps lunch -- in France.
South East London is rich in cultural, sporting, entertainment,
architectural and historic attractions, as well as excellent shopping
facilities and imbibing establishments, and we will be pleased to
share our local knowledge and also point you towards sources of
further information on request.
